Start your tour at the Gibbes Museum of Art with a professional artist tour guide;
First you will see the paintings in the Charleston Renaissance Gallery of the Gibbes and learn about the
painters of the Charleston Renaissance (which began in 1915) and how these painters influenced Charleston with
a flourish of artistic activity which in turn
started the building of Charleston as a great center of art.
Next you will see the Gibbes Museum’s collection of paintings created by several
of today's living masters. You will then walk thru the beautiful historic French Quarter to art galleries that
represent their works and learn how these contemporary painters influence Charleston art today.
This tour is a fascinating look at the painters from the past through today that have helped
build Charleston into one of the most vibrant artist colonies in the East.
